Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry refers to the industry that transforms resources (materials, energy, equipment, tools, capital, technology, information and human resources) into medical industrial products and consumer goods for people through processing and manufacturing process according to market requirements. Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry includes seven sub industries according to national standard of “Classification of National Economic” (GB / T4754-2002): manufacturing of chemical raw materials, manufacturing of chemical preparations, processing of Chinese herbal pieces, manufacturing of proprietary Chinese medicine, manufacturing of veterinary drugs, manufacturing of biological and biochemical products, and manufacturing of sanitary materials and medical supplies.
There are thousands of pharmaceutical enterprises in China, which have the production capacity of more than 1500 kinds of BPC. In 2009, total output of China was 1.936 million tons, which was the largest BPC exporter in the world.
High investment, high consumption, high pollution and high emission

Although GMP and GSP certification have eliminated a number of backward enterprises, the problems of large quantity, small scale, scattered and disordered pharmaceutical enterprises in China have not been solved fundamentally. Leading enterprises with international competitiveness are very scarce.

Production of chemical synthetic drugs takes chemical raw materials as the starting reactants. Intermediates are synthesized by chemical synthesis, and then drug structure is modified to obtain target product. Final product is obtained by de-protection, extraction, refining and drying.
